Irish families with surrogate babies start to leave Ukraine as crisis intensifies

Ukraine has become a popular destination for people who wish to have children through surrogacy, however the ongoing diplomatic crisis with Russia is causing problems for those families.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney, has confirmed that many Irish families who recently traveled to Ukraine to meet their children born through surrogacy are safe, adding that some of these families have begun to return to Ireland.

Speaking on NewsTalk, the minister said: ”Our team in the embassy in Kyiv and our consular team in Dublin have been literally working through the night with families to try to ensure that the families that have been involved in surrogacy over the last few days can get home safely.”
